For those of us with teenage children, there comes a day when we begin to wonder how we will fill our days once we are free from the day-to-day responsibilities of parenthood. We often fantasize about everything from traveling the globe to simply having the time for a much needed nap or an afternoon on the deck, iced tea in hand. Peggy Strang began to envision a life where she could utilize her weaving skills to found a new business. In July 1999, Peggy opened French Creek Fiber Arts in Olde Avon Village as a production weaving shop that would also provide spinning and weaving instruction. Three years later knitting soared in popularity, and being a lifelong knitter, Peggy knew adding knitting was a natural fit. We met with Peggy recently, and listened as she provided this overview of French Creek Fiber Arts' offerings;

French Creek Fiber Arts specializes in supplies and instruction for those with an interest in knitting, crocheting, spinning, and weaving. We offer a full line of quality knitting yarns, books, patterns, accessories, and supplies, in addition to lessons in knitting, weaving, spinning, crocheting, and playing the hammered or mountain dulcimer. All of our products have been very carefully selected to meet the needs of those searching for specialty items as well as those on a budget. More importantly, French Creek Fiber Arts is located in a century home where people are welcome to make themselves at home while they relax, chat, and knit.

We offer a wide range of knitting materials and accessories, including the finest in natural fiber hand knitting yarns in rich colors and scrumptious textures. We carry needles and accessories for the occasional or serious knitter, and patterns and books from a variety of sources. At our shop you will find looms, spinning wheels, spindles, and accessories from Louet, Schacht, and Ashford, fine ready-to-spin natural fibers, and books and patterns for handspinners and the yarns they make.

French Creek Fiber Arts provides classes and lessons in knitting, weaving, spinning, and playing the mountain or hammered dulcimer. Our classes offer invaluable instruction to those starting off from scratch as well as those wanting to dust off their skills and learn new techniques. We have project classes focused around making beautiful, useful items for yourself or as gifts, and we offer social knitting opportunities with our Sit 'N Stitch and our Knitter's Night Out sessions where we have no agenda and no lesson plan, just inspiration, companionship, help, and encouragement.
