As a hospital-based Registered Nurse, Linda Gartman began to explore nursing opportunities in the legal field. She recognized the need for medical professionals interfacing with lawyers and the legal community. In February 1994, Linda founded Gartman Health & Rehabilitation, Inc. where she functions as a legal nurse consultant, medical case manager, life care planner, and mock trial coordinator. Gartman Health & Rehabilitation, Inc. specializes in life care planning, medical case management, and legal nurse consulting. I am a Licensed Registered Nurse (RN), Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN), Certified Life Care Planner (CLCP), Certified Case Manager (CCM), Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (LNC-C), and a Qualified Rehabilitation Provider for the State of Ohio and Consultant to the U.S. Department of Labor. My areas of expertise include life care planning, catastrophic case management, Workers' Compensation, spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, burns, orthopedics, amputations, chronic pain, transplantation, home health services, and general rehabilitation.

I provide consulting services to attorneys who specialize in medical malpractice and personal injury. I assist them in determining their clients' specialized medical needs and associated cost. I evaluate their clients' medical treatment from the date of injury to the present, and I project their future care needs through life expectancy. I provide expert testimony for both plaintiff and defense attorneys in cases involving life care planning, rehabilitation, and case management. I work with the State of Ohio and the Department of Labor to assist injured workers in returning to work. I assist them in receiving proper care and services. If they cannot return to work, job modifications or alternative employment options are explored.

My work is challenging because these individuals were one day walking and talking just like you and I, and the next day they were dealing with catastrophic injuries resulting in life altering disabilities. I interface with community services, such as the Cerebral Palsy Foundation or the Head Injury Foundation. I work directly with their insurance carriers and alternate payer sources to ensure they receive proper care. The services include assistance with home modifications, home caregivers, and durable medical equipment needs. I help in arranging for psychological support, referring them to appropriate agencies where they can learn to deal with their disability.

Since 1999 I have been a program instructor at The Ohio State University-Lima with classes held in Cleveland. The program teaches Registered Nurses how to function as a Legal Nurse Consultant interfacing with plaintiff and defense firms and insurance companies. They learn the importance of reviewing records for merit, and how to perform the legal research and writing that is required of them. Nurses are recognized for their nursing experience, knowledge, and skills valuable to the legal team.

I am the President of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants Cleveland Northeast Ohio Chapter. We have approximately one hundred fifty members throughout the State of Ohio who practice as Legal Nurse Consultants and nurse experts. I hold membership in the Case Management Society of America and the association of Certified Life.
