In 1939 Floyd "Wig" Weigel founded his Harley-Davidson distributorship in Elyria, Ohio and was joined in business by his nephew George Stevens in 1970. George assumed ownership of the shop in 1982, and in 2001 opened a second facility in Avon, Ohio under the name Lake Erie Harley-Davidson. Mike and Lori Stevens, George's son and daughter, are now the company's President and Vice-President and the third generation of their family to lead the family-owned and operated business. We met with Mike recently, and listened as he provided this overview of Lake Erie Harley-Davidson's products and services;

Lake Erie Harley-Davidson is the Ohio's north coast's premier Harley-Davidson dealership. We offer everything from sales and service of new and pre-owned Harley-Davidson motorcycles to parts, accessories, MotoClothes® Gear, motorcycle rentals, and Rider's Edge courses that can teach almost anyone to ride and test the skills of those who have already been riding. We are conveniently located on I-90 and Rte. 611, and have a large, beautiful showroom filled with genuine Harley-Davidson products.

We carry a wide range of Harley-Davidson gear for both men and women, including helmets, gloves, rain gear, leather accessories, sleepwear, eye-wear, and collectibles. We also offer authorized Harley-Davidson rentals for people who want to rent a motorcycle for a day, a weekend, or a week. Rentals are also available when your bike is in for service, for students of our Rider's Edge courses, and as a "ride before you buy" program where you have the opportunity to ride four bikes in four hours to help you decide which model is right for you.

Lake Erie Harley-Davidson is very active in the local community. We participate in the Susan G. Koman "Ride for the Cure", in addition to many other charity events for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Friendship Animal Protective League, and the American Cancer Society. We are combining our original Elyria operation with our newer Avon facility to enable us to offer more products and longer hours for our customers. Due to the interest in owning the last motorcycle coming out of our Elyria dealership, we decided to raffle off the last bike and give the net proceeds to the American Cancer Society in tribute to Floyd Weigel, our founder, who died of cancer in 1982.
