Vintage House Café

In 1940 Dr. and Mrs. Taylor Smith purchased thirty-five acres in Avon, Ohio from Howard and George Lewis where they constructed a new building to house their medical practice. Throughout the years the building become home to several other businesses, including another doctor's practice, a dry cleaning service, and an antique shop. Roberta and Keven Walker leased the building and began a year-long renovation to bring the property up to code and turn it into a restaurant. In 2004, the work was completed and Roberta and Kevin opened the doors to Vintage House Café. We met with Roberta recently, and listened as she provided this overview of Vintage House Café's menu and accommodations;

Vintage House Café is a family-owned and operated restaurant serving fresh, homemade American and Italian-inspired food and wide variety of freshly baked cakes, pies, and cheesecakes in a very quaint, cozy atmosphere. We are open seven days a week and serve lunch, dinner, and a Sunday Brunch. We host tea parties and private functions, in addition to offering off-premise catering. We have two dining rooms that accommodate up to seventy-five guests, a Tea Room, and have been approved for outdoor service in our Cottage Garden Seating area.

We serve many specials throughout the week. Monday nights are our Endless Pasta nights, with different types of pasta and sauce. We have a Perch Fry on Friday nights, and on Saturday nights we serve dinners of prime rib that has been roasted right in our own kitchen. Our Sunday Brunch is served each Sunday from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon, and include fresh fruits and salads, eggs, bacon, hash browns, French toast, pancakes, and bagels, in addition to luncheon items, such as Lasagna, Cabbage Rolls, Chicken Paprikash, and brownies and cupcakes.

Our Tea Room can accommodate up to sixteen guests for private parties and get-togethers. We offer Royal High Teas, a Tea Luncheon, and a Children's Tea. Our Royal High Tea is served in courses on vintage China with silver and fine linens. Included is a selection of gourmet teas with pastries, scones, and savories. In addition to a section of gourmet teas, Our Tea Luncheon features tea sandwiches complemented by scones and fresh fruit flowers. Our Children's Tea is an event filled introduction to tea complete with crafts and other activities.

We also host tea tastings where we introduce customers to an assortment of teas and discuss the health benefits each possess. We carry a variety of flavors, including Amazon Mango, Strawberry Green, Peach Apricot, and Bourbon Street Vanilla. We let everybody taste the different types of tea, and make the loose teas leaves available in canisters so they can take their favorite home with them.
